Lignification and cell wall thickening of ray parenchyma cells in Scots pine sapwood

چکیده

Abstract Scots pine exhibits variations in ray anatomy, which are poorly understood. Some parenchyma cells develop thick and lignified cell walls before heartwood formation. We hypothesized that some stands trees show high numbers of thick-walled early the sapwood. Therefore, a microscopic analysis sapwood from four different Northern Europe was performed on Safranin — Astra blue-stained tangential micro sections outer inner areas. Significant differences lignification wall thickening were observed between all for analyzed. On single tree level, relative ranged 4.3% to 74.3% In sapwood, more frequent. trees, however, difference small since lignification, already common Ray composition number rays per area not significantly within studied material. However, only one Scottish had higher ray. The discovered relevant wood utilization general impregnation treatments with protection agents particular.

Neighboring parenchyma cells contribute to Arabidopsis xylem lignification, while lignification of interfascicular fibers is cell autonomous.

Lignin is a critical structural component of plants, providing vascular integrity and mechanical strength. Lignin precursors (monolignols) must be exported to the extracellular matrix where random oxidative coupling produces a complex lignin polymer. The objectives of this study were twofold: to determine the timing of lignification with respect to programmed cell death and to test if nonlignif...

Biodegradability of Extractives in Sapwood and Heartwood from Scots Pine by Sapstain and White Rot Fungi

Wood extractives cause pitch problems in pulp and paper manufacture. Extractives are low-molecular weight lipophilic components in wood consisting mainly of triglycerides, waxes, steryl esters, sterols, free long chain fatty acids and resin acids (Fengel and Wegener 1989a). The deposits of wood extractives associated with fibers, inorganic salts and additives, technically referred to as pitch, ...

Climate influences the leaf area/sapwood area ratio in Scots pine.

We tested the hypothesis that the leaf area/sapwood area ratio in Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) is influenced by site differences in water vapor pressure deficit of the air (D). Two stands of the same provenance were selected, one in western Scotland and one in eastern England, so that effects resulting from age, genetic variability, density and fertility were minimized. Compared with the Sc...

Plant cell wall lignification and monolignol metabolism

Plants are built of various specialized cell types that differ in their cell wall composition and structure. The cell walls of certain tissues (xylem, sclerenchyma) are characterized by the presence of the heterogeneous lignin polymer that plays an essential role in their physiology. This phenolic polymer is composed of different monomeric units - the monolignols - that are linked together by s...

Effects of cell wall ultrastructure on the transverse shrinkage anisotropy of Scots pine wood

A hypothesis for explaining the differential anisotropic shrinkage behavior of wood has been proposed, and it was based on the differences in the cell wall ultrastructure. The starting point of the consideration is that wood shrinkage is governed by its chemical composition, ultrastructure, and gross anatomy. It is also well known that the transverse shrinkage anisotropy of earlywood (EW) is mo...
